WHEN IT’S OVER
When you’re done getting angry, you’re closer to letting go. You see no need to fight with this person because you realize that they are no longer worth fighting for. You save your energy once you know that sharing that energy with them is a waste of time, and so when you’re done getting upset, you daydream about letting go. I speak from experience as I can still remember the relationships of my past and how I left with a sort of ease that would suggest that I didn’t care in the first place, but that’s the thing. Sometimes you care so much that being mistreated, disrespected, and suffering a feeling of lack of appreciation drives you up a wall and sometimes closer to an exit.
Some of us are so used to being on the opposite end of mistreatment, and so we deal with it over an extended amount of time because we’ve grown strong enough to tolerate it. And often, we stay with a person not out of love but simply because we can bear the harm of loving the wrong person. I’ve been guilty of trying harder when I should have quit. I’ve had my share of disappointment from investing hope in a hopeless situation. I’ve even stayed in a relationship because I believed that I was suitable for that person even knowing they were wrong for me, but there comes a moment in the matrix where you wake up and realize that peace can be cultivated only in the absence of the person you were trying to make peace with.
When it’s done, you’ll know. You’ll feel relieved at the idea of walking away. You’ll begin to reason with yourself with a newfound clarity; you’ll stitch a silver lining as you figure out that all this time, you were just too good of a person for someone who only intended to make you feel bad. And the best thing about it is that you’ll owe them no explanation as you gather your things to move forward with your life. 2020 has been a rough year, and it isn’t over yet; and if there was a lesson to learn this year, nothing is promised, and life is fragile. Do not waste another moment on people who drain you of your peace of mind and distract you from the love you deserve.
